Things that Make Sun Outdoors North Moab Unique
Location
Honestly, this place wins for the location alone. As mentioned previously, this area is the mecca for adventurers.
And this RV park puts you right in the middle of the action!
It’s about 7 minutes from downtown Moab, 5 minutes from Arches National Park, 35 minutes from the entrance of Canyonlands National Park, and about 15 minutes from the Slickback Bike Trail.
This place could be a boondocking parking lot with nothing and still be worth it just for the location.
RV Resort Vibes
I have stayed in disorganized and run-down RV destinations. This one isn’t one of them.
It is organized, well-laid out, and has a wide variety of luxurious amenities (including a pool!).
In addition, it is also just the general vibe. The signs are all in the same style and the amenities are all up to date and modern.
I know that these seem like small details, but it helps to give it that “RV Resort Feel”.
Multiple Sun Outdoors
Sun Outdoors offers multiple locations right in the heart of the area. So, if you can’t find a spot in one camp, you can try for another.
I have to give them a shout-out because we had to change our RV plans suddenly and they were able to accommodate us quickly.
Below are the locations:
- Sun Outdoors North Moab
- Sun Outdoors Arches Gateway
- Sun Outdoors Downtown Moab
- Sun Outdoors Canyonlands Gateway
*Please note that amenities and layouts may differ between locations.
Best Time to Go to Sun Outdoors North Moab
Spring and Fall
The best time to visit is in the spring (April-May) or fall (September–October) when the weather is mild, and the desert comes alive with color.
The weather is more mild, making it perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and off-roading without the summer heat.
Don’t be fooled though – it’s still hot. If you are going to hike, do it in the morning or evening.
Fall brings cooler days and crisp evenings, ideal for catching those unforgettable sunsets.
These seasons also offer fewer crowds than summer, giving you more space to explore Moab’s stunning national parks, trails, and scenic drives at a relaxed pace.

Winter
Sun Outdoors North Moab is open all year round! I noticed this right away because of the heated hose risers in the hookups, so be prepared for cooler temperatures and even some snow.
With that being said, visiting Moab in the winter is a hidden gem for adventure lovers looking to escape the crowds.
With cooler temperatures and a peaceful vibe, it’s the perfect time to explore Arches and Canyonlands National Parks without the hustle of peak season.
Snow-dusted red rock formations create a striking contrast, offering incredible photography opportunities.
Avoid Summer
I would, personally, avoid summer like the plague. I say this for two reasons: heat and crowds.
I decided to visit in September and the temperatures exceeded 100° F on several occasions. Therefore, I cannot even imagine how brutal it would be during the summer.
Regarding crowds, September is heading into the shoulder season. Even then, you need reservations to get into Arches National Park for most of the year and it was still crowded at times.
Again, I can’t even imagine it in the summer. It’s a “no” from this RVer.

Best Spots at Sun Outdoors North Moab
One of the biggest drawbacks to Sun Outdoors North Moab is that the spaces are very cramped.
Luckily, the surrounding area is beautiful, but you might need to step out of your RV to see it.
If you are worried about parking in tight spaces, I would recommend site #90-91.
Personally, I liked sites #38-46👇
Sites #38-41 offered amazing shade – which is not to be overlooked in hot climates.
Sites #42-46 were right at the back, more spacious, and had better views of the iconic red rock.
Because of the view and end spot, my overall favorite spot was #46.
Please note that you might have to pay a site lock fee to pick an exact spot😒
Overall Review of the Spots at Sun OUtdoors North Moab
(2.5/5 Stars)
There are some good spots in the park, but some of them are a little tight.
Views You Will Get at Sun Outdoors North Moab
From your RV site or cabin, you’ll be treated to views of the iconic red rock cliffs and mesas that make this region famous.
The sunsets are especially breathtaking, although you might need to exit the RV park for a better vantage point.
If you’re an early riser, the sunrises over the La Sal Mountains are equally mesmerizing.
For the best views, I would recommend venturing into Arches or Canyonlands National Park.
Overall Review of the views
(4/5 Stars)
You get some views of the rocks, but the real beauty lies in the locations near Sun Outdoors North Moab.
Some spots are more beautiful than others.

- General Store
- 2 Dog Parks
- Outdoor Pavillion

Staff at Sun Outdoors North Moab
The staff here is welcoming and knowledgeable. They are more than happy to provide recommendations on the best hikes, off-roading trails, or local eateries.
Whether you need help finding your site or just want to chat about the area’s attractions, you’ll be greeted with a smile.
They were also very helpful in getting my huge rig out of our spot when leaving.
Overall REview of the Staff
(5/5 Stars)
Is There Shade at Sun Outdoors North Moab?
To my surprise, there are a few sites with trees offering a bit of respite from the sun. They do make it interesting to back your RV in, but they are actually very helpful where shade is concerned.
In the tent sites, they are all provided with covered awnings.
It’s smart to bring an awning or shade cloth if you’re planning to spend time outside your rig during the heat of the day.
Overall Review of the Shade at Sun Outdoors North Moab
(4/5 Stars)
Could use more shade in some spots and the pool. But considering it’s in the desert, I’ll take it!
Is Sun Outdoors North Moab Pet Friendly?
Absolutely! This park is very pet friendly, with two dedicated dog parks where your furry companions can run free.
One even had two gates so that you could leash your pup up without them bolting. It is a nice and thoughtful touch.
There are also pet waste stations conveniently placed around the park.
Just be mindful of the heat and bring plenty of water for your pup, especially during the warmer months.
Overall Rating of Pet Amenities
(5/5 Stars)
Some of the best pet amenities I’ve seen!
Is Sun Outdoors North Moab Big Rig Friendly?
Yes, kinda.
As far as navigating the park, it is very easy and well laid out for big rigs.
There are also long pull-through and back-in spots.
My only concern is that some spots are very tight. Plus, some trees can make backing in tricky.
In our spot, it was not at a large angle, so we had to jack-knife it in there.
With trees and multiple big rigs packed in, it can make it hard to make 90 right turns when leaving or backing in.
We had to ask our neighbor to move their truck just to get out and we had to pull out against the small angle because of the tree.
Overall Rating of Big Rig Friendliness
(3.5/5 Stars)
Type of Hookup at Sun Outdoors North Moab
You can expect full hookups at every RV site, including water, sewer, and 30/50 amp electrical service.
My only complaint is that with large rigs, you may have to back in further for your electrical to reach. This means that you might have to forgo some shade provided by the trees.
Also, the electric box is very close to your neighbor. For example, our neighbor’s electric box was basically in our spot right at our front door.
Needless to say, we made some new friends very quickly!
Overall Rating of Hookups
(4/5 Stars)
All spots have full hookups, but they are very close to next spot.
Things to do Near Sun Outdoors North Moab
Canyonlands National Park
A little farther out, but totally worth the drive, Canyonlands National Park offers vast, dramatic landscapes that will leave you in awe.
On your way, don’t forget to check out Dead Horse Point.
Island in the Sky is the most accessible district, with epic viewpoints like Mesa Arch and the Green River Overlook.
If you’re up for a true adventure, head to The Needles district for some of the best hiking and backcountry camping in the region.
Arches National Park
Just a short drive from Sun Outdoors North Moab, Arches National Park is a natural wonderland with over 2,000 stunning stone arches.
Take a hike to the iconic Delicate Arch or cruise through the scenic drive to see landmarks like Balanced Rock and Double Arch.
Whether you’re in for a full day of hiking or a quick stop to snap some jaw-dropping photos, this park is a bucket-list must.
Scenic Drives
If you prefer exploring from the comfort of your vehicle, Moab is home to some incredible scenic drives.
The Potash-Lower Colorado Riverway takes you along the river, where you’ll see petroglyphs and stunning rock formations.
For something truly unique, drive the La Sal Mountain Loop and experience desert red rock blending with alpine landscapes—talk about a contrast!
Mountain Biking
Moab is a world-class destination for mountain bikers, with trails ranging from beginner-friendly to expert-level thrills.
The Slickrock Bike Trail is legendary for a reason, offering heart-pounding rides over smooth, undulating rock formations.
If you’re new to mountain biking, the Moab Brand Trails provide a variety of loops and terrains for every skill level, with stunning views to keep you motivated.
Moab
The town of Moab itself is a fun stop, offering quirky shops, local eateries, and plenty of adventure outfitters to get you set up for your next big thrill.
For Moab, I would recommend scheduling a tour (with Viator, GetYourGuide, or similar).
This place is notorious for off-roading, jeeping, and biking. If it’s on wheels, book it!

More Spacious Sites
It might not come as a surprise but some of the RV sites could also benefit from a bit more space between them for added privacy.
Faster Check-In Process
To check in, you pull in and then immediately pull over. Although this did not present any issues with us, we saw it get backed up during the weekend rush.
This left some rigs backed up onto the highway waiting to get in. This could be dangerous and there were some very snarky RVers.
Better Signs
For travelers who don’t know that there are multiple locations, this could be very confusing. The Arches location is better marked and could be mistaken for the North Moab location.
If you are coming from Moab, the signs are pretty clear for Sun Outdoors North Moab. However, if you are coming from Arches National Park, the sign is not as obvious.
Who Would I Recommend Sun Outdoors North Moab to?
This park is perfect for adventure seekers who want to be close to Moab’s natural wonders while enjoying the comforts of a modern RV park.
I would recommend it for true adventurers who are comfortable backing up RVs.
Whether you’re a solo traveler, family, or couple, Sun Outdoors North Moab is an excellent spot for anyone looking to check off iconic hikes, off-roading adventures, and stunning views from their bucket list!
