No trip to London would be complete without a visit to the formidable and historic Tower of London. 

This iconic fortress is steeped in rich history dating back nearly a millennium. It’s a living testament to the city’s past. 

And let’s not forget, it’s home to the Crown Jewels. This is an awe-inspiring collection of regalia and artifacts that symbolize the British monarchy’s enduring legacy. Drink an English Cider in a British Pub

There’s something truly special about stepping into one of London’s many traditional pubs and ordering a pint of English cider. You can quench your thirst and immerse yourself in the heart of London’s social scenes. 

Pubs are the city’s living rooms, where strangers become friends over lively conversation and laughter. If you are stuck on what to order, my favorites from when I lived there are: Rekorderlig, Kopparberg, and Stowford Press. 

This is a bucket list experience that you simply can’t pass up!

Enjoy the view of Big Ben and Parliament  

Standing in the heart of London, the legendary Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. These are unmissable landmarks that define the city’s skyline. No London bucket list would be complete without witnessing the grandeur of these architectural marvels. 

Hearing the famous chimes of Big Ben echo through the city streets is one-of-a-kind. And the sight of the Parliament building, illuminated against the night sky, is nothing short of breathtaking. 

It’s not just about snapping the perfect picture (though you’re bound to get many). It’s about immersing yourself in the beating heart of London’s political and cultural life. As long as you can get past all of the tourists!

You can go by yourself via taxi or tube, or get a ticket to a hop-on hop-off bus that will drop you right off.

River cruise on the Themes

The Thames River, London’s lifeline, is a sightseeing adventure in itself! A river cruise down the Thames is more than just a scenic ride. It’s an opportunity to see London’s iconic landmarks from a unique perspective. 

As you glide down the river, you’ll pass under the majestic Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, and the London Eye. All while creating a picturesque panorama that is simply unforgettable. 

And let’s not forget, it’s a welcome escape from the bustling city streets. Whether you take a leisurely day cruise or a romantic evening ride, the river cruise offers a peaceful yet immersive way to experience London.

British Museum 

A visit to London would be incomplete without stepping foot in the legendary British Museum. This repository of global history and culture houses millions of works, spanning over two million years of human history. 

It’s more than just a museum. It’s a time machine that allows you to travel back and explore the world’s greatest civilizations, from the Egyptians to the Greeks to the Romans. And it’s all under one roof (just don’t ask where they aquired everything).  

Stand face-to-face with the Rosetta Stone, gaze upon the Egyptian mummies, and marvel at the towering Elgin Marbles. Each object tells a unique story, connecting you to our shared human heritage. 

And the best part? It’s absolutely free! So prepare to lose yourself in the labyrinth of history. And remember to wear comfortable shoes—you’re going to need them!

Go shopping on Oxford Street

No trip to London is complete without a shopping spree on Oxford Street! This bustling retail hub is a paradise for shopaholics, with over 300 stores ranging from high-street to high-end.

 Whether you’re hunting for the latest fashion trends, unique souvenirs, or simply window shopping, Oxford Street offers an unrivaled shopping experience. 

If you come during Christmas, Oxford Street is always one of my favorite place to go. Just don’t expect to get anywhere quickly! So, whether you’re a spendthrift or a saver, make sure to take a stroll down this iconic London street. It’s an absolute bucket list must-do!

Stroll down Abbey Road

If you’re a music fanatic, you’ll absolutely love this one! Abbey Road is an iconic part of London’s rich musical history. It is famously home to the Abbey Road Studios where The Beatles recorded their revolutionary album, ‘Abbey Road.’ 

Take a step back in time as you cross the same zebra crossing featured on the album cover. It’s a surreal experience that gives you a taste of rock ‘n’ roll history. 

You might even find yourself humming “Here Comes the Sun” or “Come Together” as you stride across. It’s a pilgrimage for music lovers and a must-do on any London bucket list!

See a Show on the West End 

If you’re in London, you simply can’t miss out on the magical experience of seeing a West End show! This vibrant theater district, famous worldwide, is the British equivalent of Broadway. It showcases a range of performances from heart-stirring dramas to toe-tapping musicals. 

You’ll find yourself completely immersed in the captivating performances, stunning costumes, and spectacular sets. Watching a production in one of the majestic theatres, with their rich history and grand architecture, is an experience that will stay with you long after the curtain falls. 

The best part? The prices of tickets are significantly cheaper than Broadway or other equivalents. So, don’t forget to add ‘seeing a West End show’ to your London bucket list. It’s truly a theatrical spectacle you won’t want to miss!

See the Disappearing Trolley in King’s Cross

Calling all Harry Potter fans! This one’s for you. Nestled in the heart of King’s Cross Station is the famous Platform 9 ¾, the magical departure point for the Hogwarts Express.

 The real magic, however, lies in the disappearing trolley lodged in the wall. It’s a perfect recreation of the scene from the Harry Potter series. It is guaranteed to take you back to your childhood dreams of receiving your own Hogwarts letter. 

Make sure to arrive early to beat the crowds and don’t forget to grab some Potter-themed merchandise from the nearby store. This is a once-in-a-lifetime snapshot opportunity that surely deserves a place on your London bucket list!

If you’re a fan of history with a side of horror, the London Dungeon is a thrilling ride through 1000 years of London’s murky past you can’t miss. 

With live actors, spooky storytelling, scary rides, and eye-opening special effects, the Dungeon aims to transport you back to some of the capital’s most sinister times. When visiting the London Dungeon, you’ll come face-to-face with the city’s dark history. 

It’s a chilling, thrilling, and occasionally hilarious experience that’s sure to get your heart racing. So, do you dare to delve into the city’s wicked past? If yes, the London Dungeon deserves a place on your London bucket list!

Go shopping in Soho

Soho, oh Soho! There’s no place quite like it for an unforgettable shopping spree. This vibrant district in London is a mecca of eclectic shops, designer boutiques, and unique market stalls. 

Whether you’re a fashion-forward trendsetter or a vintage enthusiast, there’s something to suit every style in Soho. It’s in these labyrinth-style streets that I found my favorite pair of vintage boots and that one-of-a-kind dress that always gets compliments. 

Take your time to explore quirky, niche stores. Don’t forget to visit the world-famous Carnaby Street, the heart of London’s fashion and lifestyle scene. 

And who knows? You might stumble across your next favorite piece of clothing or a perfect souvenir to remember your London trip.

Learn something at the Natural History Museum

Step into the world of natural wonders at the Natural History Museum, another non-negotiable addition to your London bucket list. 

This museum is a treasure trove of over 80 million specimens spanning billions of years. There are dinosaur skeletons to a giant blue whale model that hangs majestically from the ceiling. 

This place is a testament to the incredible diversity of life on Earth. You can also explore the Darwin Centre, where millions of specimens are preserved in spirit-filled jars! 

As a bonus, entry is free, but the feeling of standing under the gigantic skeleton of a Diplodocus in the grand central hall? Priceless.

Eat at the Secret Garden in Kensington

If you’re looking for an enchanting dining experience, look no further than the Secret Garden in Kensington. 

Tucked away in a quiet corner of this bustling district, this hidden gem offers an ambience that’s as appetizing as the food. You’ll dine amidst lush green foliage, under twinkling fairy lights, making you forget you’re in the heart of a major city. 

The menu is a food lover’s delight, boasting a range of delicious dishes that celebrate local produce and culinary creativity. 

Whether it’s a hearty brunch, a leisurely lunch, or a romantic dinner under the stars, eating at the Secret Garden is an experience that’s sure to tickle your taste buds and soothe your senses.

Drink a traditional Ale on a Pub on the Thames

How about ending your day of adventure by unwinding with a refreshing drink on a boat pub afloat the majestic Thames? Yeah, you heard it right! 

There’s no better way to watch the city’s skyline morph from day to night than from the charming deck of a Thames boat pub. 

The gentle rocking of the boat, the shimmering reflection of the city lights on the water, and London’s iconic landmarks passing by – it’s an experience that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. 

My personal favorite boat pub was Tattershall Castle near Victoria Embankment – I sipped on an expresso martini with a view of the London Eye and Big Ben!

Have High Tea

One simply cannot experience the essence of London without indulging in the quintessential British tradition of High Tea. 

There’s something comforting and delightfully ceremonial about sipping on perfectly steeped tea, paired with a selection of delicate sandwiches, scones slathered with clotted cream and jam, and a variety of pastries and cakes.

My personal recommendation? The Palm Court at The Langham is an oasis of grandeur and sophistication, reminiscent of a bygone era. 

It’s an experience that combines culinary excellence with a touch of British tradition and elegance. It’s an experience that will make you feel truly British, if only for an afternoon.

Find the most expensive thing in Harrods

Venture into the world of opulence at Harrods, one of the world’s most iconic department stores. 

With seven floors and 330 departments dedicated to luxury fashion, fine food, and high-end furniture, Harrods is a shopping haven that epitomizes London’s sophisticated retail scene.

Harrod’s sells the most items such as coveted designer attire to extravagant homeware, gourmet chocolates, and even a million-dollar dress.

Every time I would visit London while studying in Cambridge, we would always play a game to try and find the most expensive thing at Harrods! This would allow us to explore this iconic department store while also having some laughs.

Drink a butter beer at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour Harry Potter

If you’re a Harry Potter fan like me, then the Studio Tour is non-negotiable! Set in the very studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made, this behind-the-scenes tour is an immersive dive into the wizarding world.

From walking through the enchanting Great Hall, gazing at the intricacies of Dumbledore’s office, to strolling down Diagon Alley, every corner of this tour is brimming with magical surprises. 

And let’s not forget about the Butterbeer! I don’t want to be dramatic, but this might be my favorite drink in the world! I can’t even write about it. Just get on a plane and go drink some…like NOW.

My favorite time to go here is during the holidays so that you can see the Great Hall decked out in festive cheer!

So, get ready to wave your wand and step into the magic. Without a doubt, this experience is a must-add to your London bucket list!

Relax at Hamstead Heath

An escape to Hampstead Heath is a slice of countryside paradise right in the heart of London.

This vast, ancient park offers some of the best views of the city from Parliament Hill, giving you a whole new perspective of the London skyline. 

And did I mention the breathtaking sunset views? There’s nothing quite like watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink from this vantage point.

 A visit to Hampstead Heath is an absolute must for any London bucket list. It’s a place that allows you to breathe, think, and just be. 

Trust me, you’ll leave feeling refreshed and with a renewed love for London!

Enjoy Tea at one of the Various Cafes at Somerset House

When it comes to iconic London experiences, enjoying a warm cup of tea at the beautiful Somerset House is an absolute must! 

Nestled on the banks of the River Thames, this cultural hub is home to a brilliant selection of cafes, each offering its own unique take on the traditional English tea. 

Add this to your London bucket list and you won’t be disappointed!

Wander the Cobblestone Streets of East London

Stepping into East London is like stepping back in time, with its charming cobblestone streets that narrate tales of centuries past. 

As you wander these charming streets, you’ll be captivated by the eclectic mix of street art, vintage stores, vibrant markets, and historic pubs. 

Don’t forget to stop by Spitalfields Market, a personal favorite, where you can find everything from vintage treasures to delicious street food. 

And Shoreditch–It’s like stepping into a trendy wonderland! The street art here is nothing short of a vibrant outdoor gallery, a testament to the area’s flourishing creative scene.

East London, with its blend of history and hipster charm, is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience London off the beaten path.

Taking a stroll through Hyde Park is quintessentially London and a must-do for every London bucket list! 

This sprawling oasis is at the heart of the city, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. 

The Serpentine Lake, beautiful gardens, Diana Memorial Fountain, and the iconic Speaker’s corner – there’s no end to the treasures that Hyde Park holds. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic, a leisurely boat ride on the Serpentine, or a simple stroll amidst nature. 

Every time I visit, I can’t help but be amazed at how such tranquility can exist in the middle of a bustling city! 

Fun fact: my very first mermaid photoshoot was here when I was 18!

This bucket list is only if you are traveling to London from mid November to January. 

This annual festive extravaganza truly brings the magic of the holidays to life. Imagine skating hand in hand with your loved ones around the enchanting ice rink, sipping on mulled wine while being surrounded by twinkling lights, or feeling the adrenaline rush on one of the many thrilling fairground rides. 

Don’t forget to visit the Christmas markets where you can shop for unique gifts, crafts, and mouth-watering festive treats. It’s an experience that fills me with childlike joy every time! 

Winter Wonderland will make you fall in love with London’s festive season like nothing else! So, bundle up, and come join the festive frolics.

It may seem a little strange to suggest eating dumplings in London. However, I have been obsessed with these ever since I had them in Shanghai. And they are even a treat if you are in London. 

So if you are a foodie, then feasting on the world-renowned soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung should be high up on your London bucket list. 

The moment you bite into these delicacies, the flavorful broth spills out, followed by the succulent filling – it’s an explosion of taste that sends your senses reeling!

Each dumpling goes through 6 hand prepared stations that takes 40 minutes. 

So, when in London, don’t miss out on the opportunity to have a delicious culinary adventure at Din Tai Fung.

Buy Something at the Market in Camden Town

Camden Town, with its eclectic vibe and pulsating energy, is a paradise for shoppers, foodies, and culture vultures alike. 

Its market is an absolute gem, brimming with a vast array of unique stalls that sell everything from vintage clothing and unique crafts to eclectic home decor and delicious global street food. 

As you navigate through the labyrinth of stalls, you’ll discover the joy of stumbling upon unexpected treasures. The market also features numerous live music venues, adding a lively soundtrack to your shopping experience. 

One of the unique things about this market is its incredible location, nestled along the picturesque Regent’s Canal.

Climbing to the top of Primrose Hill is an absolute must-do for any adventurous soul in London! 

This grassy hill offers one of the best panoramic views of the city’s skyline. When you finally reach the top – oh, the view! 

It’s a breathtaking sight. London’s iconic landmarks stretch out before you in a sweeping vista that’s postcard-perfect at any time of day. 

But for me, the real magic happens at sunset. Watching the sun dip below the horizon and the city lights start to twinkle is an experience that’s just pure enchantment.
