Things that Make Glenwood Springs KOA Unique
Amenities
Honestly, the Glenwood Springs KOA does feel like an RV Park when you are in the camp itself at some places. You can see your neighbor and there aren’t many trees blocking your neighbor in most sites. Keep in mind that the surrounding area is still stunning.
Fortunately, the area in which the Glenwood Springs KOA shines is its wide variety of amenities!
I mean, seriously, there’s a pool! I especially enjoyed this because a) I am a mermaid and b) we went in mid-July and the temperatures never left the 90°s throughout our entire stay.
Visitors can also enjoy a range of facilities, including clean and well-maintained restrooms, hot showers, and laundry services that provide convenience for longer stays.
In addition to the pool, there is a splash park available, multiple dog parks, and a playground that keeps kids entertained.
Moreover, the convenience store on-site offers essential supplies, local crafts, and snacks, ensuring that you have everything you need without having to venture far.
Variety of Accommodation
Another standout factor is the variety of accommodation options available. Whether you prefer a cozy cabin, tent camping, or parking your RV, Glenwood Springs KOA has you covered.
Regarding RVs, they have a wide variety of spots to suit your rig’s needs. For example, there are pull-through spaces, tighter back-in sites, and even spots with their own patio and covered area.
Proximity to Rifle Gap and Glenwood Springs
One of the unique features of this KOA is its proximity to outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and hot springs.
Although I must admit that there is very little to do in Silt itself, besides gaze at the Colorado River. It is pretty much in the middle of nowhere Colorado.
Rifle Gap and Glenwood Springs, on the other hand, are excellent Colorado destinations. And the Glenwood Springs KOA is conveniently located right smack in between them!

The Gas Station
This last part that makes Glenwood Springs KOA unique is also a drawback – there is a massive truck stop style gas station (Golden Gate Auto/Truck Plaza) right at the entrance of the park!
The advantage? Just pull out with your entire rig and grab gas before heading off into your next destination! The disadvantage? You camp right next to a gas station and a highway (I-70).
Best Time to Go to Glenwood Springs KOA
Spring and Fall
If you prefer fewer crowds, consider planning your trip during the shoulder seasons of late spring or early fall. During these times, you can enjoy mild weather and still participate in most activities without the hustle and bustle.
During spring and fall, the weather is perfect for outdoor activities, and the landscapes are vibrant with blooming flowers and lush greenery or fall foliage.
I also enjoy these times because you can go to the hot springs in Glenwood Springs and not feel like you are going to melt away.

Important! Check with Glenwood Springs KOA if you do want to visit in the shoulder seasons. They are open seasonally and shut down in the winter.
Summer
Summer is particularly popular, offering long days and pleasant evenings.
I have been to Glenwood Springs in all seasons! During my stay at this park itself, it was mid to late July. I am not going to sugarcoat it. It’s hot…really hot.
Fortunately, I prefer “mountain hot” to “Denver city hot” any day of the week. But, it’s still 90°F to 100°F.

Best Spots at Glenwood Springs KOA
Choosing the right spot can elevate your camping experience. This place offers a range of spots, each with its own set of perks.
You can find a full map of the Glenwood Springs/Colorado River KOA 👉 here.
Best RV Spots at Glenwood Springs KOA
For RV enthusiasts, the full-hookup sites are a popular choice. These sites provide all the utilities you need, making your stay convenient and comfortable.
I personally loved W14 or W1 (depending on which way your RV windows face).
Not gonna lie, this is as about as luxurious as RV spaces come – covered patio, fire pit, BBQ, and unobstructed views of mountains and the Colorado River!
These are all marked as the Riverfront Patio Sites 50 Amp Full Hookup on the map.
Best Tent Spots at Glenwood Springs KOA
If you’re tent camping, you may have more luck with shade than the RVers.
I noticed that tent site 4 offered plenty of shade!
There are not many options for tent camping and you might see your neighbor, but it still offers access to the Colorado River and the luxurious amenities.
Best Cabin at Glenwood Springs KOA
For those who prefer cabins, the deluxe options come with kitchens and bathrooms, offering a home-like comfort.
These spots are perfect for families or groups looking for a bit more luxury while still enjoying the camping experience.
I did notice that C4 offered views of the flat tops, river, and had the most open space to the side.
Views You Will Get at Glenwood Springs KOA
There are views of the Glenwood Spring KOA that are amazing…and some that are “meh”.
The amazing section consists of the back in spots that line the Colorado River. Some sites even come with their own patio, covered BBQ area, and seating with unobstructed views of the river. Oo la la!
The rest of the campground is pretty standard. In our pull-through spot, we have a lovely view of our neighbor, the gas station, and just the tip of mountains peaking out behind it.
If you leave the park and head into Glenwood Springs or Rifle Gap, the views are absolutely stunning!
Overall Rating of Views at Glenwood Springs KOA
(3.5/5 Stars)
Overall, the surrounding areas are stunning. The Colorado River spots are stunning.
I give it 3.5 stars because some spots might get a view of their neighbor or the gas station.
They do have this unregulated “enter at your own risk” area that was fun to explore! I even explored it as a mermaid! 👇
Facilities at Glenwood Springs KOA
Facilities can make or break a camping experience, and it doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it’s some of the best I’ve seen.
As I previously mentioned, this is where Glenwood Springs KOA steals the show.
Here is a full list (and it’s packed!) of all of the amenities and facilities offered at this Glenwood Springs RV Park:
- Full Hookup Spots with 50 amp max electric.
- Wifi
- Cable TV
- Pool (open June through September)
- Hot Tub and Sauna
- Propane
- Fishing
- Firewood
- Pavillion
- Splash Park
- Dog Park (for both big and small dogs)
- Laundry Facilities
- Boat Ramp into the CO River
Wifi
I also have to comment on the wifi. When using the wifi in my campsite, it was a little spotty and sometimes non-existent.
Fortunately, if you are close to the general store and the pool? It’s great!
Picture this: a blogging mermaid sitting with her laptop by the pool? Call me a happy fishy!
Most of the time when RV parks offer wifi, it barely works at all. The wifi may be sketchy, but I’m happy it works at all!
Showers
If you don’t know me, I detest showering in my RV. Therefore, I always feel a need to comment on the state of the shower facilities in these RV destinations.
And this one gets a glittering gold star! The showers are very spacious, free, and other precise temperature control.
I often take colder showers and this is one of the few showers that I’ve had where I didn’t feel like an icicle or like my skin was melting off.
Overall Rating of Facilities at Glenwood Springs KOA
(5/5 Stars)
I rarely give five stars, but any RV park that has a pool and splash park in it earns it.
Plus, those deluxe sites by the river are about as luxurious as RV sites can get.
Staff at Glenwood Springs KOA
One of the standout features of this RV park is its exceptional staff. From the moment you check in, you’re greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable, providing assistance and answering any questions you may have.
They also guided us to our spot since the one-ways and the east/west campgrounds can be confusing if you are here for the first time.
They can also recommend the best hiking trails, fishing spots, and local attractions.
Need help setting up your tent or troubleshooting an RV issue? The staff is always ready to lend a hand, ensuring you have a hassle-free experience.
We actually had an issue with our GFCI tripping, and they came straight away to help!
KOA Campgrounds are widely known RV destinations. Therefore, customer service is a top priority at here, and it shows.
Overall Rating of Staff at Glenwood Springs KOA
(4.5/5 Stars)
Overall, I had no issues! I really appreciated all of their help throughout our stay.
Is There Shade at Glenwood Springs KOA?
Shade at the Glenwood Springs KOA is going to be largely dependent on where you are and what site you are occupying.
The tent sites definitely provided more shade than the RV sites.
I also noticed that while there are a ton of trees scattered throughout the park, they aren’t significant enough to provide a ton of shade. They are pretty, don’t get me wrong, but you would have to sit on the ground directly under them for any relief.
Luckily, it wasn’t too windy during our stay and we could stretch out the awnings during the mornings when the sun was blaring into our kitchen.
Overall Rating of Shade at Glenwood Springs KOA
(2.5/5 Stars)
There are a lot of trees scattered throughout the park, but not enough to provide significant shade. Only a few deluxe spots have gazebos.
Is Glenwood Springs KOA Pet Friendly?
For many campers, pets are part of the family, and leaving them behind is not an option. Glenwood Springs KOA understands this and welcomes pets with open arms. The campground is incredibly pet-friendly, with designated areas for walking and playing.
There are even pet-specific amenities like dog parks and waste stations, making it easy to care for your furry friends. I especially appreciated the separate dog parks for small dogs and big dogs.
Just be sure to follow the campground’s pet policies, which include keeping pets on a leash and cleaning up after them.
The nearby hiking trails and open spaces are perfect for exploring with your pet. Whether you have a dog, cat, or other pet, you’ll find that Glenwood Springs KOA accommodates their needs, ensuring they have as much fun as you do.
Overall Rating of Pets at Glenwood Springs KOA
(4.5/5 Stars)
Amazing pet facilities here! Lots of trails, dog clean up stations, and two dog parks (one or big dogs and one for small).
P.S. I travel with 2 cats and a dog full-time in my RV. You can follow them on Instagram @toebeansontheroad 🐱🐶
Is Glenwood Springs KOA Big Rig Friendly?
For those traveling in large RVs, finding a campground that can accommodate big rigs is crucial. Glenwood Springs KOA is well-equipped to handle large RVs, offering spacious sites with full hookups.
These sites provide the necessary space and utilities to ensure a comfortable stay for big rig travelers.
The campground offers large one-way roads. In addition to the spacious sites, there are pull-through options available, making it even more convenient for large vehicles.
For reference, I have a 43 foot RV and I have space for the RV as well as my truck and other car. It is tight, but we can get it all in!
The largest spot here is a whopping 95 feet!
Overall Rating of Big Rigs at Glenwood Springs KOA
(3.5/5 Stars)
There are some nice long pull through spots here, but most of the roads are one-ways, which might cause you to zig zag through the park a bit, especially if you don’t know where you are going.
In addition, all of the scenic spots are back in and might not fit larger rigs🥲
Type of Hookup at Glenwood Springs KOA
When it comes to hookups, Glenwood Springs KOA offers a range of options to suit different needs.
Full hookups are available, providing water, sewer, and electric connections. These sites are perfect for RV travelers looking for convenience and comfort.
For those who prefer a more rustic experience, there are also electric-only sites.
These spots offer the basic necessities while still allowing you to enjoy a more traditional camping experience.
Tent campers aren’t left out either. There are designated tent sites with access to water and nearby restrooms.
Overall Rating of Hookups at Glenwood Springs KOA
(4/5 Stars)
Most sites have full hookups, so I give it 4/5 stars.
Things to do Near Glenwood Springs KOA
One of the biggest draws of Glenwood Springs KOA is its proximity to a variety of outdoor activities and attractions.
Glenwood Springs
The nearby Iron Mountain Hot Springs is a must-visit, offering a relaxing soak in natural mineral waters. Or perhaps check out the Yampah Vapor Caves, one of the only naturally occurring vapor caves in North America!
For adventure seekers, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park offers thrilling rides and cave tours. Hiking enthusiasts will love the numerous trails that wind through the surrounding mountains, offering breathtaking views and opportunities to spot wildlife.
Fishing, rafting, and kayaking are popular activities on the Colorado River, which runs nearby.

Overall Rating of Location of Glenwood Springs KOA
(3.5/5 Stars)
The surrounding area of Glenwood Springs KOA is stunning, but it can feel congested at some interior parts. Plus, it is near I-70 and a gas station.
It is conveniently located between Rifle Gap State Park and Glenwood Springs.
Drawbacks of Glenwood Springs KOA
While Glenwood Springs KOA offers many fantastic features, there’s always room for improvement.
It’s not Really In Glenwood Springs
Let’s get one thing straight – Glenwood Springs KOA is actually in Silt, Colorado. It’s official name is the Glenwood Springs/Colorado River KOA.
I think Colorado River is more accurate because it is literally right on the Colorado River. The Glenwood Springs part is a bit more misleading because it is actually about 20 miles away and a 20-25 minute drive.
By all means, this is still completely accessible! However, when booking I was lead to believe that it was closer to Glenwood Springs itself.
Glenwood KOA is Expensive
I know that RV Parks are on the rise. I am also aware that the Glenwood Springs KOA has amenities galore.
However, it is expensive! A back-in river spot can put you down $95 or more a night.
True, they do have value spots in the back for around $61, but they have “no frills” and don’t provide those glorious views of the Colorado River.
Also, they charge you $5 per day for an extra car. The staff explained it that it was to keep the locals from parking here. I get it, but ew.
You Can’t Select Your Spot Without Paying a Fee
I did find it a little odd that you couldn’t actually select your site – only the type of site that you wanted.
I then realized that you can, in fact, choose your site for a fee of $20. That’s kinda lousy, especially if you have your heart set on a specific spot.
Shade
Another area for improvement is the availability of shaded spots.
While there are plenty of trees, some areas of the campground could use additional shade structures to provide relief during the hot summer months.
I think that this would also help be more secluded from your neighbor. Because if you aren’t right by the river, you are pretty packed in, especially if you are not in one of the “patio sections”.
Would I Recommend Glenwood Springs KOA?
I would recommend this to campers with families due to the amount of children related amenities at this RV park in Glenwood Springs.
Although it isn’t the prettiest or most isolated CO RV Park I’ve stayed at, Glenwood Springs KOA offers a unique and enjoyable camping experience for all types of campers.
And it definitely makes up for it with all of its deluxe amenities and facilities!
It is a perfect destination for RVers looking for a little bit of luxury and access to incredible Colorado outdoor activities and destinations.
The combination of natural beauty, community atmosphere, and modern amenities makes it a standout destination.
