Things that Make Riverview RV Park Unique
Big Thompson River
What makes Riverview RV Park stand out is undeniably its proximity to the Big Thompson River.
There have been very few RV parks that I’ve been able to turn my head on my pillow in bed and see a river, let alone fall asleep to the incredible sound of rushing water.
Plus, there is a small walking path that hugs the river’s edge. Often, I will see tubers or children playing in it.
Since I work full time in my RV, I’ve actually taken my laptop down and sat on a rock in the river to work. That beats an office any day of the week!
Plus, I’ve gotten some sick mermaid photos in there😍 See below…
If you love a good river RV spot, Riverview RV Resort is definitely one to check out if you are in the Loveland area.
Live Music and Events
In addition, they sometimes offer live music in the main pavilion. I have seen two concerts there.
Campers at this park are very friendly and are always down to dance! It is a very fun summer activity…right outside of your RV!
Wood carvings and Fairy Houses
If you happen to turn on your inner detective and explore this campsite, you will notice many wood carved stumps (mainly of wizards) and fairy houses.
If you do manage to snag 136, keep an eye out. I spotted one of these tiny fairy houses right by the RV!
There are many cottonwood trees here and it was said that it is a good way to deal with stumps. Since then, many carvers (including the owner) have put their skills to good use.
In the summer, they offer a scavenger hunt for the children to find all the carved wizards and fairy doors!
Best Time to Go to Riverview RV Park
I would stick to late spring, summer, or early fall to come witness the beauty of Riverview RV park.
Although it is open year round, you are most likely going to want to spend your time outside of your RV/tent enjoying the river.
I have gone in both August and May, and I must say that I preferred May.
The river water levels were higher and the temperatures were perfect! There was nothing too extreme and I didn’t feel like I was baking in my RV.
Of course, Memorial Day was busy, but other than that it wasn’t too crowded.
Whatever your plans are, I would book as early as you can so that you can get the best spot, especially if you want to go for those more coveted spots by the river.
when Is it open?
Riverview is open all year, but I would aim to come during a time when you can sit outside.
What is the Best Spot at Riverview RV Park?
River Spots: 136 to 145
These spots are right on the river! There are other spots that overlook the river, but they are on a hill and you need to walk to the back to see it. 136 to 145, however, are right out your back door.
Please note that these do not have sewer. This is not ideal, but worth it for the view!
Big Rig Pull Through: 501-505
These spots are pull-through and offer full hookup, with the most spacious being 505 and 504. Plus, they are right next to the bath house.
You can see a full map of the entire campground 👉 here
Tip About the Bath House
The two main ones are by the main building and then by the river.
Use the one by the river: it offers private rooms vs communal style bathrooms.
Trailer Park or RV Resort?
Being brutally honest, some of the long term parts of Riverview RV park look a bit like a trailer park. And that’s understandable.
Fortunately, all of the spots near the river are the complete opposite and enter the realm of “RV resort” vibes.
Spot 136
The spots near the river are especially breathtaking. This is a *hush hush* secret (so don’t tell anyone) but spot 136 is prime!
Our windows only face left when we park, so no matter who comes, we have a full view of the forest and river right out of our kitchen!
We first scouted this spot when we stayed in spot 140. A year later, we booked it well in advanced because we really wanted spot 136. After then staying in this prime spot, I can safely say that it did not disappoint!
Views You Will Get at Riverview RV Park in Loveland
When camping at Riverview RV Park, expect stunning views of the Big Thompson river and the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
In the park, there are loads of cottonwood trees that provide shade and add to it’s “enchanted forest” theme.

Facilities at Riverview RV Park
Riverview RV Park offers many standard facilities that will make your camping adventure more enjoyable. To name a few:
- Wifi (take it with a grain of salt)
- General store
- Laundry
- Bath House with bathroom
- On-site fishing (permit required)
- Playground
- Seasonal events and converts
- Fresh water
- Dump station
Most importantly, they have hot showers. I absolutely HATE showering in my RV, so this is an added bonus.
The staff does clean them regularly and I’ve never had an issue with the bathrooms being messy. Of course, they tend to do this when I really need to use the restroom.
For families, the playground, volleyball net, and a basketball court are popular.
As mentioned before, they also have a small covered stage and picnic shelter for when bands come and perform during the summer.
Staff at Riverview RV Park
Overall, I had great interactions with the staff (although some of them can be a little sarcastic at times). They were very nice during the check in and anytime I went into their little store on site.
One thing that I appreciated was that after we arrived we had an escort to our site. They then helped us back in.
I know that more experienced RV drivers hated being micromanaged as they backed their rig up.
I, on the other hand, won’t shy away from any help when is comes to backing my beast of a fifth wheel.
They were very good coaching me and we popped it right in there!
Is there Shade at Riverview RV Park?
Yes! There are plenty of trees to park yourself and relax below! With that being said, I think the trees disrupt our Starlink signal…but that’s beside the point.
There are some open spaces in the middle but it generally comes with some lovely tree coverage.
Is Riverview RV Park Pet Friendly?
Is Riverview RV pet friendly? Absolutely. They even have a dog park!
I saw more dogs here than most places that I’ve RVed so far. They are everywhere.
Of course, there are strict leash rules and they are not allowed in the common areas, such as the bath house.
Is Riverview RV Park Big Rig Friendly?
Yes! My behemoth of a 5th wheel fits great! Unfortunately, there are spots where it would not fit, especially as you head towards the office.
Luckily, the river spots or the bigger pull through were just fine. We even were in an interior spot at one point and as well as one of the smaller river sites.
With that being said, if you are in a big rig, make sure to choose a spot where you know you will fit because there are some spots here that we wouldn’t make it!
I would recommend checking out spot 505 and 504 or one of the water and electric site by the river.
This is designated by yellow and purple on the map.
Tent Camping at Riverview RV Park
As for tents, there are only about 5 available – 2 in the front and 3 in the back. I would book in advance to make sure that you secure a spot if you are tent camping.
Primarily, it is only RVs.
Long Term Stays
Riverview RV Park does offer long term stays. However, it is deeper into the park so you might not be right on the river.
I don’t know if I would personally choose to stay in the long-term section but I loved staying here for two weeks!
Type of Hookup
This depends on the site. Many of the interior spots offer full hookup.
The ones by the river will be electric and water only.
Things to Do Around Riverview RV Park
Another area that Riverview RV park shines is location! Located right outside of Rocky Mountain National Park and within 15 minutes of downtown Loveland, it is in prime proximity to adventure.
Hiking
One of the best hiking spots to check out is the Devil’s Backbone Open Space. This area offers many trail networks that vary on length and difficulty.
And the best part? It is only about a 7 minute drive from Riverview RV Resort.
I actually ended up hiking this with my cat – we did the 2.4 mile Wild Loop.
While on this hike, we were greeted by unique rock formations and mountain views. Just watch out for rattlesnakes as they are often reported here.
Please note that there is a $10 (credit card only) fee to park in the lot at the start of the trail.
There are many other hiking options around this area, but I found this one to be the most diverse and beautiful. Plus, it is the closest one to the RV park.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Riverview RV Park is right on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, giving you full access to all of its wonders!
Trail Ridge Road is a scenic road that peaks at almost 12,000 feet (3,658 m).
Funny Story: this is where we learned how to drive the RV! Still proud of myself for not peeing my pants.
Once in the park, there are almost 300 miles of hiking trails and even Long’s Peak, the 13th highest 14er in Colorado.
To get to Rocky Mountain National Park, all you do is drive up Big Thompson Canyon through Estes Park.
Downtown Loveland
There is also plenty to do in downtown Loveland! Here, there is a plethora of restaurants, bars, and even the beautiful Lake Loveland.
If you are looking for something unique to do in Loveland, I would check out the Benson Sculpture Garden. This is a stunning outdoor area designating showing off 172 amazing sculptures from world famous artists.
Loveland also gives you access to some popular breweries. And why not get local with your favorite beer?
Some ones to check out are:
- Big Beaver Brewing Company
- Big Thompson Brewery
- Berthoud Brewing
Estes Park
Riverview RV park is right at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park on Highway 34 in the area.
Once there, you will discover this chic mountain town filled to the brim with local boutique shops, mouthwatering restaurants, and souvenirs.
This place is also a hub for anything outdoor. It is the perfect place to book a tour or outdoor excursion.
Paddle boarding
I am an avid paddle boarder! So much so that I travel with my paddle boards in my RV all summer long.
Luckily, this area is ripe for the picking when it comes to places to get my feet (or tail) wet.
My favorite places to paddle board are Boedecker, Horsetooth Reservoir, or Boyd Lake.
Please keep in mind that the fee system was very confusing. Some people said it was free while other people stated that we needed permits.
Even my aunt, a Loveland local, was confused by the regulations.
Therefore, I would get a permit just in case.
And as with most places, always wear a lifejacket with a whistle to avoid getting fined.
Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park
If you are looking to get out into nature, then check out the local hidden gem of Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park.
It is right inside the Big Thompson Canyon and only about 15 minutes away from Riverview RV Park.
It is the perfect place to try some hiking and maybe have a picnic.
Room for Improvement
Overall, I really enjoy Riverview RV Park. It’s isolated, has a majestic river, and many amenities.
However, Riverview RV park isn’t exactly modern. While I’m not sure this qualifies as a bad feature, some of the facilities are a wee bit dated.
Plus, there is the wifi situation…and the situation is that it is basically non-existant.
Granted, the majority of the RVers and campers here are on holiday.
So, you don’t exactly need wifi when you are camping. However, for the full timers who work out of their RV, it is frustrating to say the least…
Since I came last time, they did add their own wifi. Unfortunately, it’s about as useless as fine china in an RV.
We use our own Starlink and even that struggles out here. It does ebb and flow a bit, but generally my day consists of me grunting while walking around trying to find a signal with my laptop.
Ahhh, the joys of being a nomadic adventure travel blogger…
Though it is not ideal, I will suffer for the stunning river views.
Also, they are very strict about the speed limit. Be warned! They will yell at you if you speed over the abismal 5mph. Seriously, I could walk faster than that.
I get it – there are dogs, kids, and massive trailers. However, I feel like I am crawling every time I try to leave.
I don’t think that it necessarily needs to be changed, but it’s good to be aware of before you go.
Would I Recommend Riverview RV Park?
Absolutely!
Riverview RV Park is an excellent place to have a summer adventure in your RV or with your family.
I think that the views and its proximity to many adventurous activities outweigh any inconveniences of lack of service and outdated facilities.
It is truly a wonderful addition to any adventure bucket list, especially those who want to vibe in the middle of no where in Colorado nature.
The amount of families and friends I see just chilling, playing loud music by the fire, and laughing is amazing!
