Things That Make Casey’s RV Hideaway Unique
A Hidden Gem
Unlike many crowded RV parks, Casey Jones Campground offers a tranquil and serene environment, perfect for those looking to escape the noise of city life.
There are not many people who know about this park, and it shows.
Location
This is located in beautiful Ponderosa Pines in Elizabeth, Colorado.
The RV park is also situated near the beautiful Casey Jones Park, adding to its charm and uniqueness.
Our spot overlooked the park and we were within walking distance…as in I could roll out of my RV and be there.
While at this spot, I watched an entire baseball game and saw horses being trained all from my RV.
Check the local event calendar before your trip to coincide your visit with local festivals, fairs, or other gatherings that can add an extra layer of enjoyment to your stay.
It is also within driving distance of Castle Rock (around 30 minutes) and Denver (around 1 hour on a good day).
It’s Quiet
I am all for staying at massive RV campsites with nonstop events and people walking around.
But, I’m kinda a closet introvert, and sometimes I just kinda want to be left alone with the wilderness.
There isn’t much going on in the campsite itself, but if you do want some action, you can head into Casey Jones Park or Elizabeth. You get the best of both worlds *sings Hannah Montana’s theme song*.
Nature and Wildlife
Nature lovers will appreciate the abundant scenic beauty surrounding Casey’s RV Hideaway.
From morning bird songs to evening deer sightings, the natural environment offers a peaceful retreat.
I was a tad bit worried about going this far toward Castle Rock and Denver and not getting trees/shade. Fortunately, I was proved wrong. It is a nice and small little RV park nestled in some nice trees.
There was even a nature walk within walking distance of my RV where I filmed a yoga class.
Also, according to their website (subject to change), they do allow slacklines and hammocks!

Fall, on the other hand, offers stunning foliage, creating a vibrant backdrop for your RV adventure.

Is it open year-round?
Casey’s RV Hideaway is open year-round. Summer season is May 1st-October 31st. For the winter season, tent camping might not be available.
As far as long-term stays, they offer monthly winter rates, but they state that there is a 30-day maximum. So, I am assuming that you can only stay 30 days during the summer and monthly rates in the winter?
Best Spots at Casey’s RV Hideaway
Best Spot for Large Rigs
When it comes to big rigs, site 15 might be your only option. I drive a large vehicle and this was the only spot I found with space and full hookup. Plus, it is a pull-through spot.
We also had a full hookup and views of Ponderosa Pines and Casey Jones Park.
Please note that sites 1, 4, and 14 are also pull-throughs. Although they look about the same length on the map, they seemed smaller to me or didn’t have a view.
If I had a second choice, I would choose site 14.
Best Spot For Tent Camping
If you are tent camping, I loved site 3. It is only reserved for tent campers and has a nice view of the trees to one side.
However, if I’m being brutally honest, it is not the most isolated spot for tent camping that I’ve seen in my travels.
Preferred Back-In Spots
As far as tighter back-in spots, I enjoyed the view from site 7 as well because it was pushed back so that you aren’t right next to another RV.
Views You Will Get at Casey’s RV Hideaway
Forests
Casey Jones Park sits conveniently within Ponderosa Pines. Most of the views from the spots will be some trees scattered and then more dense forests on the edges of the campground.
This isn’t the most “packed into the forest” kinda vibe I’ve had, but it does feel like a cozy little Colorado Campground.
Casey Jones Park
Depending on which spot you take, you might get a pretty nice view of Casey Jones Park.
My entire RV faced towards the park and some wooded areas. Although it isn’t the most isolated mountain view I’ve ever had, it sure is unique!
Starry Nights
One of the underrated aspects of Casey’s RV Hideaway is the incredible night sky. With minimal light pollution, the stars shine brightly, offering a mesmerizing view after the sun sets.
I’ve seen some pretty nice stars waiting for my dog to pee in the middle of the night!
Facilities at Casey’s RV Hideaway
Limited Amenities
Casey’s RV is run by the Elizabeth Park and Recreational District.
Although they have some amenities, they are somewhat limited. I would consider this to be more of a campground than an RV resort.
Still, here are the amenities that I noticed within the campground itself:
- Dumpsters
- Access to trail
- Picnic shelter
- Dump station
If you walk to the adjacent park, you will get access to:
- Restrooms and Showers
- Playground
- Ballfield
- Equestrian Arena
- Dog Park
A Note on the Restrooms and Showers
We had to walk into Casey Jones Park for the showers and use a code to get in. They are push showers with no temperature control and they were HOT.
Again, I would rather have my skin melt off than be a popsicle, but I’d rather not choose between the two.
Yet, beggars can’t be choosers and I’m just grateful for any form of a hot shower.
Staff at Casey’s RV Hideaway
When we pulled up, I saw the trailer for the hosts and she did come out to greet me.
She was very nice, but it didn’t seem like there was a strict check-in policy.
Tip: write down the number you booked! She said that we could go straight to our spot and she wasn’t required for check-in. If we had lost our paperwork and she wasn’t available, it would have gotten awkward.
After that, the campground hosts were pretty much nonexistent, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing.
Again, I love active campgrounds and chatting with campground hosts, but it’s all about balance. And I was very happy just minding my own business at my time at Casey’s RV Hideaway.
Is There Shade at Casey’s RV Hideaway?
One of the common concerns for RVers is finding a spot with adequate shade, especially during the hot summer months.
Fortunately, Casey’s RV Hideaway offers plenty of shady spots, thanks to the abundance of mature trees throughout the park. These shaded areas provide a cool and comfortable environment for relaxing.
However, don’t think that you are completely out of the park. It still gets HOT during the summer. We were there at the end of June and saw multiple days in the 90s F (32s C).
Luckily, the spot that we were in (site 15), was at an angle where we would get natural shade from our RV in the morning, put our awning out during lunch, and then get shade from the trees from there.
Is Casey’s RV Hideaway Pet Friendly?
For many RVers, pets are part of the family, and leaving them behind is not an option. Fortunately, Casey’s RV Hideaway is pet-friendly, welcoming your furry companions with open arms.
The park provides a safe and accommodating environment for pets to enjoy. We even brought our 2 little cats!
There is a maximum of 2 dogs per site. And, of course, they are not allowed to be unattended or off-leash.
Pet Amenities
The park offers various amenities for pets, including waste disposal stations.
Remember to follow the park’s pet policies to ensure a pleasant experience for all guests.
You can also walk them on the trail directly from the campground. Be prepared to encounter some horses.
Is Casey’s RV Hideaway Big Rig Friendly?
Yes, but it’s limited.
We managed to snag one of the bigger pull-through spots (site 15). However, as I looked around the park, I was not sure that I could have squeezed anywhere else.
I also saw some bigger fifth wheels back in and then have no room to place their cars. Luckily, they had multiple parking spots that were for folks with camper’s permits (I’m assuming that’s us?).
Overall, there are some very cute spots, they are just not very big.
If you have a large vehicle, make sure to book early and make sure that the spot that you book is capable of holding you.
Type of Hookup at Casey’s RV Hideaway
Full Hookups
Casey’s RV Hideaway offers a range of hookup options to suit your needs. Full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer, are available at many sites. These hookups provide the convenience and comfort of home, making your stay more enjoyable.
Electrical Options
The park offers various electrical options, including 30 and 50-amp service. Whether you have a small camper or a large motorhome, you’ll find the appropriate electrical hookup to power your RV and its amenities. The reliable electrical service ensures a worry-free experience.
There are a total of 24 campsites with both 50/30 amp service and water.
Water and Sewer
In addition to electrical hookups, each site is equipped with water and sewer connections. These amenities make it easy to access fresh water and dispose of waste, enhancing the overall convenience of your stay. The well-maintained facilities ensure a clean and efficient setup.
Of the 24 campsites, 22 of them have sewer. For those who do not have sewer capabilities or do not wish to use the sewer, there is a free dump station at the entrance.
As with all campgrounds, make sure of the hookup capability before you book to make sure that it suits your RV needs.
Things to Do Near Casey’s RV Hideaway
Explore Casey Jones Park
One of the highlights of staying at Casey Jones Campground is its proximity to Casey Jones Park.
This nearby attraction offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. It’s a great place to spend the day with family and friends.
Evan’s Park
If you drive about 3 minutes up the street, you will find Evan’s Park – a 60-acre park that offers a skatepark, disc golf, squash pad, playground, fishing pond, pickleball courts, and trails into town.
Downtown Elizabeth
I’m not going to sugarcoat it: Elizabeth is tiny. However, what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm.
I noticed several events going on during my stay, as well as several small business shops and restaurants.
Outdoor Adventures
For those who crave outdoor adventures, the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, fishing, and wildlife watching.
As I said, there is trail access walking distance from your camper.
The scenic landscape is perfect for exploring and reconnecting with nature. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the stunning views and memorable moments.
Castle Rock
Casey’s RV Hideaway is a short 30-minute drive from Castle Rock. I have lived here several times and it is a local favorite.
At a glance, I would recommend…
- Hiking Castle Rock
- Exploring other trails around Castle Rock
- Eating at La Loma with a view
- Finding deals at the Castle Rock Outlet Mall
Denver
Denver, the capital of Colorado is about 1 hour drive. Here, the opportunities are endless.
From concerts, to specialty restaurants, to unique bucket list activities there is a plethora to do in Denver.
Drawbacks and Room For Improvement
No Campfires
There are no campfires or charcoal grills allowed. Although I understand this rule, it is a little sad, especially if you are tent camping.
Double check with the campground hosts, but you are allowed propane grills and fire rings.
Sometimes the “Nature Noises” Aren’t Ideal
I will say that there are more chirping birds here than most of the RV parks that I have stayed in. This place is heaven for our cats.
However, there is a ton of construction going on that competes with it. Plus, if you are near the entrance of the park, you might hear the noises from Highway 86.
Some Spots are Tight
The one-way road that runs through Casey’s RV Hideaway is very small. I’m surprised that my fifth wheel fit, honesty.
With that being said, there are limited pull-through options. And some of the back-in spots would be very tight to get into without running into a tree or running over some grass.
So, you would either need to have a smaller RV or be a master at cranking your RV into tight spots.
Amenities are Limited
There are the necessities at this campsite – which is honestly all you can ask for. I’m always just happy for a hot shower.
However, if you are coming in here expecting some fancy RV resort, this might not be the place for you.
Would I Recommend Casey’s RV Hideaway?
I would recommend Casey’s RV Hideaway (Casey Jones Campground) for those who want a more relaxed, laid-back, and camping vibe for their RV adventure.
Casey’s RV Hideaway offers a unique and enjoyable experience for RV enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers.
The park’s serene environment, friendly community, and beautiful surroundings make it a must-visit destination.
Plus, their full hookup options, hot showers, and proximity to various parks are strong selling points for full-time RVers.
Plus, this is the only RV park in Elizabeth itself and the next options are in Larkspur and Kiawa, Colorado.
In conclusion, Casey’s RV Hideaway offers a unique blend of tranquility, community, and natural beauty that makes it a standout destination for RV enthusiasts.
