As a full-time RVer with one adventurous dog and two curious cats, I know firsthand how important it is to have the right pet adventure gear for your furry companions.

Adventuring with pets brings so much joy and excitement, but it also requires thoughtful planning to ensure their safety, comfort, and enjoyment—no matter where the journey takes us.

Meet the Adventurers

Because they are the stars of this post and modeling this pet adventure gear – here are my furry travel companions. They all travel full-time and have even lived in other countries!

• Maggie: our energetic and fluffy 11 year-old Sheltie! She loves playing tug-o-war and going on easy hikes.
• Moe: the infamous flame point Siberian forest cat. He knows he’s beautiful and he isn’t afraid to show it! His ideal day is chilling outside in his tunnel. He lived with me in Hungary during medical school.
• Emmy: our lady Siberian forest cat. She loves hiking, annoying her brother, and sitting in my lap while we travel with the RV.

Harness and Leash Set for Hiking

I hike with both my dog and my cats! Because of this, I’ve been through an embarrassing amount of Amazon harnesses.

Dog

A sturdy, comfortable harness and leash set is essential for pet safety on hikes.

My doggie is a little escape artist and the only harness that kept her from backing out was this one.

I ended up going with this leash set. I like the harnesses that have two separate buckles.

There are ones with better reviews, but I just loved the little bows on the other option.

I also own a Travel Cat harness. It is a little difficult to wiggle their paws through, but it does feel secure.

Pet Backpack Carrier

For smaller pets or cats that aren’t comfortable walking on a leash, a pet backpack is a great way to bring them along without compromising safety.

I also use this for my cats. In fact, I moved to Hungary with one of my cats and used this backpack for the 16+ hour flight through Germany into Budapest.

Choose one with breathable mesh and plenty of space for them to move comfortably, so they can enjoy the scenery while you do the legwork.

Portable Pet Water Bottle

Keeping pets hydrated is crucial, especially on hikes or during long drives.

This water bottle is perfect because it’s leak-proof and allows you to give your pet water without any spills or mess. It is a pet adventure gear essential!

With a built-in bowl, it’s easy to pack and even easier to use, making it a must-have for on-the-go hydration.

Collapsible Pet Crates and Tunnels

When living full-time in an RV, I can’t let my kitties roam around as they please. Therefore, I invested in this portable cat tunnel that they are obsessed with!

And they aren’t the only ones that are obsessed. This often draws a lot of attention by my fellow RVers and campers. It is, surprisingly, my most asked about pet adventure gear product!

We even rigged it so that they can come and go from the tunnel into the RV as they please.

Sometimes, my dog does try to join in on the fun and I have to go rescue her.

For the doggos, you could get a collapsible pet crate.

I originally had a felt one and she went to the bathroom on it. Yucky. That’s why I went with one that I could clean easier.

Pet First Aid Kit

Accidents happen, and it’s always better to be prepared.

A pet-specific first aid kit has essentials like bandages, antiseptic, and tweezers designed with pet safety in mind.
