Can a beginner climb Half Dome?

The hike involves strenuous elevation gain, rocky terrain, and the challenging cable ascent. It’s advisable for beginners to train beforehand, start early, and consider tackling the hike as part of an overnight camping trip at Little Yosemite Valley for a more manageable experience.

Speaking bluntly, I would not advise beginners on this trail. And luckily, Yosemite has so many other options for beginner hikers. My favorites that I did were Bridalveil Fall, Glacier Point, and Tuolumne Grove.

On my watch, it said I was moving for about 10.5 hours and done in a little over 12 hours. I did spend a lot of time at the summit...because I deserved it! And I was avoiding going down the cables...

I personally thought the most dangerous part was the fatigue from the 8.4 mile ascent, and then you have to pull yourself up the sketchy cables.
